Classic Cinema

I was watching this movie 2day...called kala patthar.....interesting flick...i do not know how many of you are into classic bollywood, but there are quite a few movies, which are not only well made but full package entertainment. This movie deals with a disaster which takes place in a mine. the story revolves around the lead characters,
Vijay(Amitabh Bachchan), an ex-naval officer, who is court martialled and dismissed from the navy, he suffers everyday with in himself, with the burden of a man who escaped from a sinking ship and let the passengers die, thus he welcomes any danger, and does not care to put his life at stake when help is required to rescue the mine workers.
Ravi(Shashi Kapoor) is the engineer i charge of the doomed project, he tries to alert the management about the forthcoming danger, but his warnings are ignored by the greedy management.he joins hands with Vijay to save lives in the mines.
Mangal(Shatrughan Sinha) is a runaway convict, who finds shelter in the coal mines from the law, his humane side is revealed when he actively involves himself in the rescue operation.
What is interesting is the chemistry build up before the actual disaster takes place, Mangal and Vijay have sworn t kill each others, due to ego clashes, whereas Ravi always tries to tone them down
Another notable point in the movie is the importance of the actresses.During that era, actresses were not given substantial roles except big heroines, but in this movie, even after being a multi starrer, Rakhi (who plays a doctor, the sole doctor in the village) manages to play a vital role in the movie, she is also the romantic interest of Vijay, the chemistry is romantic in the most subtle yet noticeable . Neetu Singh plays a girl, who sells bangles, toys in the village, she also happens to be the love for Mangal. and Parveen Bobby plays an intruding journalist who falls in love with Ravi.
All in all, i would say that this movie is 100% entertainment. The mine disaster is the highlight of the movie, but comes towards the end, it adds a dash of thrill for the audience.
Go ahead, catch it sometime on television.
other movies which i loved were...Woh Kaun Thi, Gumnaam, Farar, Benaam, Itefaaq, Mera Saaya and lots more...
lemme kn0w any of you are interested in these oldies....
cheers... Posted by Picasa

kaala pathar .. is very good remake of a old English movie : GOLD : starring Roger Moore (before he was 007 - so you know how old this movie is). Kaala PAthar is actually better than this one !
