Day out in Lagos

Ruhie's day out in Lagos..

So I finally got to go out....see the city a little bit,
went to a local market called "Lekki" ...was fun shopping and looking at strange faces who stared back with you with same or more amount of strangeness.
One word which pops in my head when i was going through the streets of Nigeria-SURVIVAL
The locals-i.e Nigerians do almost everything to earn a few crumbs of everyday bread.
This is evident by a phenomenon called "GO SLOW", itz nothing but the usual traffic jam, which is present all the time on the roads, there are more go slows than bombay...a 5 minute drive will take you 30 mins during the peak hours. Now in these go slows, one can find a shopping paradise...hows?..well just look through the ur window, and you'll find dozens of people outside roaming around with various articles in their hands...the variety is really vast, it includes bags, calculators, batteries, softdrinks, cds, calling cards, fruits, vegetables, manicure-pedicure set, razors, dustbins, phones, their covers, carpets!! ...rice, table mats....and too many things to write down...
This is something I have never seen....seriously...it's fascinating, cuz I am not used to it, and these vendors . they are out regardless of the weather conditions, it's raining, or burning sun...and mind you, the items they sell are genuine...tested and tried by my mom! and I must say they are quite a hit...wonder wht'll happen if this starts happening in India...
I promise I'll post some pics soon(once I take em';)
hey but I must admit...the streets are full of people...unlike South Africa, where you would have to walk for 10 mins to actually find somebody! I aint joking here, on a sunday morning you'll probably have to walk for half an hour...yeah so back to the point..people on the streets, it's quite evident why Lagos is the second most populated city in Africa after Johannesburg.
Okadas---is another speciality, it's a motorbike taxi, yeah sounds cool n all, but hey one cannot gaurantee a safe ride on it, because the drivers don't wear any helmet, and in simple words it's just not safe, there are loads of Okadas in the city, this is due to the presence of Go Slows on the streets...the Okadas can easily find their way out or take short cuts.
And did I mention the vegetable vendors know a few names of vegetables in hindi!..yea man...they actually say "bhindi" and "aaloo" etc.
and when I went shopping I happen to tell my mum"accha hai" for a piece of clothing and the shopkeeper says" accha hai na" ...phew...you never know who can speak ur language here!
The above is thanx to the Indians who are omnipresent...they live quite separately here, all of knw most of em type of thingie...but it's nice to see known faces in a crowd
Thats it for now...will keep posting...
cheers.

but went via Dubai...! man awesum place to pass time oh hell yeah!...wanted to blog from there...saw this big samsung cubicle ...but then i saw the screen in front of me screaming blah blah flight boarding..for Lagos..and i thought either I could blog and say hi to ya'll and wait for the dubai authorities to find me blogging and eventually deport me back to India, or I could just board my flight...so I did the latter..smart thing to do huh? Sometimes I really surprise myself...hehehe...okie in a mad mood...ya so I was saying on board....Emirates has some excellent in flight entertainment...oh yes...close to 150 movies to pick from...music albums...etc etc ..I saw " In her shoes" and "everybody hates chris" man....that sitcom is awesome...one of the best sitcoms i have seen...catch it if you can...

Lagos-first impression....itz different d-uh...all African people around...place is very much like bombay when it comes to weather...hot and humid...roads are also like bombay..which wud b bad...and yea left hand frive , but my dad said and I noticed it soon that no matter what hand drive they overtake from any side! left, right and centre...all sies ppl does that ring a bell???....
anyway...there is major electricity crisis here...generator is on for 8 hrs...so that means everything works at home...the pc, fridge,tv,ac everything works on it...

Animationnnnnnnnnn

hmmmm.. i do not know what to write about...
so may be i won't...
ok not really...
I just saw Madagascar for the nth time...whoa i think the movie is awesum!!!!
one thing going on in my head
"I like to move it,move it
I like to move it, move it"

by King Julien....

but my fav ch by are the penguins, who r equivalent to CIA agents..!
and...who can forget Melmin...voiceover done by David Schimmer, I thought the character of Melmin's of totally like Ross's ...very academic...when the foursome land on the island, he actually gives a quick analysis of the island according to him in a minute!...
People who loved the penguins must watch a 15 minute christmas spl...get it from sumwhere...really funny stuff
talking abt more animaton Ice age II is going to release tomorrow...I am looking fwd to it....esp how crack the squirrel deals with it...and guess whtz the movie called
Ice Age II-The MELTDOWN!!!
My fav animation flicks are Finding Nemo, Ice Age I, Madagascar...I also enjoyed The Prince Of Egypt, Shrek I, Road to El Dorado, and yes.. Titan AE....!

End ?

oh i thought those days were over...
i thought he was gone
i made myself believe it was all gone

he says something,
does something else,

like a toy at ur disposal
like clay which can be shaped the way you want

at times...i think itz not love

or i am in the love with the idea of
being in love??

romanticizing every move you make...
just beacuse i want to

they say read between the lines
but i guess i read when there is nothing there...

the complexity of the situation kills me within
over and over and over and over again

itz banging in my head

got to find a way out
outta this maze
dead ends dont take you anywhere
they dont even take you to an end!

the purpose of this "love"
I promise, i will figure out soon

Murphy's laws

Ok i read this book...
MURPHY'S LAW COMPLETE
All the reasons why everything goes wrong
by Arthur Bloch

itz full of stuff you ever wanted to know, or atleast close to
it has liners like
"the severity of the itch is inversely propotional to the reach"
and
"At any given event, people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last"

pretty funny huh...

But they r true most of the times...a day after reading a book, i went for Being Cyrus with a few friends, and we got corner seats, and we arrived last!....it happens all the time..just observe

the book is filled with laws and more laws applicable in various fields..like leadership, love, household, engg, medicine..etc etc...

Some of my favourites are

Lieberman's law:
Everybody lies; but it doesn't matter.since nobody listens.

Laws of applied terror:
1.when reviewing your notesbefore an exam, the most important ones will be illegible.
2. 80% of the exam will be based on the one lecture you missed about the one book you didn't read.

Moser's law of spectator sports:
Exciting plays occur only while you are watching the scoreboard or out buying a hotdog

Athena's rule of driving courtesy:
If you allow someone to get in front of you, either:
a) the car in front of you will be the last one over a railroad crossing, and you will be stuck waiing for a long, slow moving train; or
b)you both will have the same destination, and the other car will get the last parking place

Law of Life's highway:
If everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

Drew's law of highway biology:
The first bug to hit a clean windshield lands directly in front of your eyes

Sinteto's first law of consumerism:
A 60 day warranty guarantees that the product will self-destruct on the 61st day

Kitchen Law:
The more expensive the gadget, the less often you will use it

Hamilton's rule of cleaning glassware:
The spot you are scrubbing is always on the other side

corollary :
If the spot is on the inside, you won't be able to reach it.

Ballance's law of Relativity:
How long a minute is depends on which side of the bathroom door you're on.

Ruby's principle of close encounters:
The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

...so that were a few good ones...
go ahead and read the book...makes u look at trivial things of everyday life wid a lil amazement.

reasons --why not to get pregnant....

hello everybody
having a baby is a lovely thing, you have someone of your own....itz your own part and blahblahblah.....
but do you know the flipside...the things you cannot do when u get pregnant----u probably never thought about it seriously..but hey thnk about it....

1. You cannot go Scuba-diving or Bungee jumping , what if you get a cheap deal only in those nine months...and what if you suffer from uterus troubles and are forbidden to go bungee or scuba after delivery???what what what..!!!

2. There is morning sickness, afternoon sickness, evening sickness, mid morning sickess, mid afternoon sickness....midnight sickess...basically you are sick all the freaking time!

3. You get stretch marks in various places on your body, which do not go away...so basically you end up looking ugly if you ever happen to wear those clothes again!

4. You cannot have sex after the 7th month...! and in the seven months you have sex...i think itz quite eeeks, cuz you freaking have your own baby inside....and you conviniently wanna insert that thing???...ya right...some kind of paedophile...!

5. Your feet are sore, your back huuurts..mind you...if you suffer from any back. tailbone problems..you have had it...!

6. You cannot see your own feet!

7. Wierd people come and try to touch your belly..thinking it'll be sum sort of pleasure..ya right...keep your hands off me and my belly...ummm i mean baby!

8. You have to sit in front of a unkown person----(the gynac d-uh) and strip and etc etc etc.

9. You gotta eat for 2 or more persons, drink for 2 or more persons, breathe for 2 or more persons...!!

10. And not to forget all the nagging....eat this, drink this....kesar khane se bacha gora hota hai etc etc.

11. You cant sleep on your stomach

12.
You cant drink a little also.....

13. You cant travel i rickshaws , esp roads full of potholes, cant sit on bikes, even buses, and everyone is not an ambani to afford a merc for a smooth ride!

14. Risking your career...after maternity leave things are not always the same!

15. Your taste buds get screwed , no matter what you eat. it all tastes the same!

16. You got to wear wierd loose clothes which are useles afterwards.

17. Last but not the least, the labour pains!!!!

ok well....these were few reasons...
now, as people may assume, and assume wrong, I am NOT against having a baby, not at all, was talking to a few girlfriends that day when this topic came up.
